Wrapping up August

Wow, I can't believe August is already over! This has been a weird month for me - some weeks felt like they dragged on - others flew by. I thought it'd be fun to do a little month in review, and talk about my favorite moments, music, products, and what God's teaching me!
Drew left for his first TDY this month, which means he's temporarily working over in the Philippines! I'm super proud of him, but two weeks feels like forever when you're not able to drive anywhere while he's gone, so i'm definitely ready for him to be home next weekend. While I was a little nervous about being on my own for the first time in Japan, the Lord gave me a sweet, sweet gift - my dad happened to me in Tokyo for work, and was able to visit for me a few days last weekend! It was so good having him here, and we had a blast exploring Okinawa.

We live pretty close to American Village, so I showed him around the area, and we ate at some of my favorite spots: Arashi, Volcano Ramen, and I of course had to take him to my favorite coffee place on the island!
📍 Coffee Casa has the best coffee I've had so far here in Okinawa, and they have the biggest cups! A lot of places in Japan serve drinks in pretty small cups - even the Starbucks' here - but Coffee Casa has normal + large sizes, and the coffee is delicious! We also got breakfast here, which was also great!
I also discovered one of my new favorite snacks here in Japan! San A's are pretty popular Japanese grocery stores, and we have one down the street from us. They have an entire section of prepared foods, and on a whim while my dad was here, I decided to try these fried patties. Best decision ever - they're actually panko fried nuggets filled with a cheesy, potato mixture! They're dangerously addicting, and I think i've already had at least 5 since I first discovered them. They're only hot in the mornings/early afternoons - if you go at night to the San A, they're served packaged and cold - just a tip!

We also stumbled upon a really good Thai restaurant this month!
📍Thaicoon has amazing Thai food, and the staff is so friendly! If you go during lunch it's apparently buffet style. We've gone both times during dinner where you just order off their menu, and both times the food's been delicious! It's also right near the seawall, and the decor inside is so cute! Definitely will be back again soon.

Another thing August was full of? Ice cream. One of my favorite ice cream places is just a quick walk from apartment, and we definitely take advantage of that.
📍 Hold By Hand has some of the best soft serve style ice cream I've had in Japan, and I love the cookie topping you can get! It's right in American Village, and is Yen only!

I also celebrated my 25th birthday in August! Drew took me to the 📍 Calif Kitchen in American Village for my birthday dinner. The food was pretty good, but the star for me was definitely the view!

All in all, I'd say August was a pretty sweet month. I can't believe I turned 25 in Japan! I would've never thought i'd be celebrating my birthday across the country. It's funny to think that if you had asked me in high school where i'd be at 25, I definitely would've told you that i'd have my life figured out, be married, have kids, and live somewhere near my family + friends. I'd like to imagine God had a pretty good laugh when He heard this.
So now here I am, actually at 25, and it feels like I don't have much of my life figured out at all. I'm definitely in a waiting season right now - waiting for paperwork to go through, waiting to figure out what working in Japan is going to look like... lots of waiting and so much unknown. But the Lord has really been humbling me through this season, teaching me that our value doesn't come from where we work or what we do. He's teaching me how to be content in stillness, and to really seek Him in the quiet and in the waiting. Going from a really fast paced lifestyle, to what feels like an abrupt stop has been hard, but i'm learning to just lean into the Lord and open my heart for whatever He has for me.
Last but not least, I of course have to share my music favorites of the month! Taylor Swift's new album came out this month, so of course I had to add those songs in. I hope you enjoy looking through my favorite tunes of August!
Thanks for reading this post - talk to you soon!
